A Beginners Mountaineering course_2027

The mountain has its own rules. In the Beginner Mountaineering Course you will learn to know them and apply them safely, so you can enjoy every climb with confidence.

Through theory and practical training you will become familiar with movement in summer and winter mountains, you will learn to use your equipment correctly and you will acquire the knowledge that every modern mountaineer needs. And of course, you will get to know some of the most beautiful mountains in Greece, living unique experiences alongside a wonderful group of people.

The school is aimed at those who want to take the next step in mountaineering, without previous experience.

What you will learn

The training combines theory and lots of practical application on the mountain. Among other things you will learn:

1. Selection, use and maintenance of mountaineering equipment.
2. Movement techniques and safety procedures on the mountain.
3. Knots and basic rope techniques.
4. Use of ice axes and crampons.
5. Self-arrest techniques.
6. Navigation with map, compass and GPS.
7. Basic principles of meteorology.
8. Avalanche forecasting and risk management.
9. Winter survival and snow shelter construction.
10. First aid on the mountain.
11. Physiology, training and nutrition for mountaineers.
12. Ecology and proper behavior in the natural environment.

The course at a glance

1. Duration: 5 weekends of practical training & 11 hours of theory
2. Participants: max 16 participants (1 instructor per 8 participants)

Official Recognition by the HFMC

The school is organized according to the regulations of the Hellenic Federation of Mountaineering - Climbing (HFMC) and is officially recognized by it. Upon successful completion of the school you will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion, which gives you the opportunity to continue to the Intermediate Mountaineering School or the Climb Leaders Course.
