About This Ascent

If high elevations, wild mountains and demanding climbs are your element, then the Bekou Trail on Giona is an experience that is hard to forget.

In just five kilometers we gain almost 1,700 meters of elevation gain, following one of the most impressive and demanding trails in Greece. The path winds between rocks, dense vegetation and steep slopes, with endless views towards Vardousia and Roumeli, while in some places safe passage is achieved using fixed ropes.

The climb is completed at the summit Pyramid (2,510 m.), the highest point of Giona, before the long descent begins via the Batheia Lakka towards the Mnimata.

This is an authentic alpine experience that is exclusively suited to very experienced mountaineers with excellent physical condition and technical training.

We depart for the village Sykia, where we will spend the night at the Scout Refuge. The refuge has beds, heating and a kitchen for preparing breakfast and hot beverages, while in the evening there is the option of an optional dinner at a taverna in the area.
With the first light of Sunday we leave on the bus whatever we won't need and start the ascent.
We follow the historic Bekou Trail, pass through the Zoodochos Pigi and continue through steep rocky passages until the ridge of Giona. At certain points fixed ropes are used.
After the ascent to the peak Pyramida (2,510 m.), we descend via Batheia Lakka towards Mnimata, where the bus awaits us for the return.
